Making its presence known in the landscape, Eremurus, or the foxtail lily bulb, is a unique perennial that comes in a variety of colors. From pink and orange to vibrant yellow, eremurus bulbs are sure to attract pollinators and make a statement in any garden. From the bottom up, the tall spikes erupt in a torrent of tiny florets—glorious in back borders or cutting gardens. Foxtail lily bulbs are also great in groups!
How to Grow Eremurus
Plant eremurus bulbs in spring or fall in full sun and well-drained, rich, sandy soil. Dig a hole 6" deep and form a cone of soil in the center. Spread the clump of tuberous roots so the crown rests on the cone and the top of the crown is 4-6" from top of hole. Fill in with soil. Keep eremurus well-watered during the growing season. Once planted, eremurus do not like to be disturbed, so mark the planting area so that you do not dig there after the foliage dies back in summer. Foxtail lilies grow 4-5' tall, bloom in late May-June and are hardy in zones 4-8.
