Creating a cool, island-inspired scene in any landscape can be challenging... unless you opt for a large display of Elephant Ears as a focal point. These plants, native to the tropics, are striking in their size and form--the perfect way to draw attention to a large expanse of lawn or even a small oasis tucked away in a sun-dappled corner. Choose alocasia species for somewhat smaller leaves that point upward. While colocasia species boast typically larger leaves that point downward. Whichever you choose for your project, consider planting in a large pot that can be moved indoors to overwinter in zones 3-8.
