Peony Catharina Fontijn

Peonies are traditional favorites in the springtime landscape. Known for their floriferous nature, incredibly long life in the garden, and their carefree nature, you'd think it would be hard to improve on them. But, Catharina Fontijn does just that! This fragrant, soft salmon-pink beauty produces a good amount of side buds in addition to its big, 7" fully double flowers, effectively prolonging the blooming season by several weeks. As an added bonus, the blooms change to white with maturity, so it is possible to have a color-changing palette on the plant toward the end of spring. Like other peonies, this vigorous plant wows in cutting gardens, borders or beds. Plus, it stands up to springtime's high winds and heavy rains, and still keeps its amazing good looks. Perennializes nicely, too.

Growing Tips

Planting Instructions:
Dig a hole large enough to spread out roots without bending them. Set crown with buds 1" below ground-level. Water in thoroughly. Plant at least 6 weeks before ground freezes.

Pruning Instructions:
