Dutchman's Breeches (Dicentra cucullaria)

Native to the eastern U.S., this charming little wildflower closely resembles a pair of tiny pants drying in the breeze. Dutchman's Breeches, a variety of dicentra, is a conversation starter, to be sure. But it also adds much-needed light and life to the shady spaces in the garden or landscape. It pairs beautifully with early-flowering bulbs such as cyclamen coum, winter aconites and crocus, creating a dynamic display of color, texture and form. Growing only 10-12" tall, they work quite well in front borders. Plant in groups to get the full effect of these winsome little blooms.
