Celebrate Mother’s Day with Flowers

Support your local flower farm and give mom the gift of flowers!

As a flower farmer, myself—and I’m sure I speak for many others—Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate with the flowers that we’ve so lovingly grown, to share the goodness of hard work, and provide a quality not obtained through your big box stores.

There are simply no substitutes for a beautiful floral piece, a farm-grown bouquet or the gift of living plants!  Remember, flowers are tied to our emotions, especially one of a mother’s hearts!

Giving a field-to-vase bouquet starts early in the season and may start in the previous year due to the timing of Mother’s Day.  The farm-grown flowers are not as plentiful as they are during the summer season, therefore, extra caution must be taken with more hours in the day for a flower farmer to maintain and keep the quality of flowers.  Many are grown from seeds or bulbs in late fall to December. And let’s not forget the perennials, which are highlights, perfect by their own standards!

Locally grown flowers can last longer and provide more variety, not to mention fragrance for our special moms.  Because the flowers are not traveling halfway across the world, mom will be getting super fresh, one-of-a-kind bouquets that are specific to a season and a place.

There are other gifts of goodness that include the aspect of flowers and gardening. Let me share just a few to make this Mother’s Day a breeze by helping you give the gift that keeps on giving.

  • Seek out your local flower farm for a flower subscription.
  • Provide mom with a gift certificate to a farm stand or flower shop.
  • Plant a tree in remembrance of Mother’s Day.
  • Plant a garden together.
  • Ask your local flower farmer for a bucket of mixed stems/blooms for you and mom to have an evening of creating your very own bouquet together.

And remember the other loved ones in your family—or special friend who has been like a mom to you—that are mothers. Sharing and giving the gift of flowers on Mother’s Day will forever and always speak volumes!

Happy Mother’s Day!
