Fall Planting

Fall Planting and Planning

As the autumn season comes into focus, it leaves the many flower farmers much to ponder. The season marks an end to the abundance of annuals that took control throughout late spring and the summer months. But it’s also a new beginning—a time to sow cool flower seeds, plant perennials and PLAN for the upcoming growing season.

Perennials

Throughout my years of growing, I’ve came to invest in my farm by adding perennials, shrubs and other staple comebacks. It truly is an investment when a perennial is planted.

Perennials

Not only is it a benefit for years to come, but they’re planted into the landscape, gardens and other spaces. By doing that, it frees up the field for the annuals, and gives curb appeal to the garden shop and our home. It’s a win-win in flower farming!

Now, perennials do come with maintenance as each year passes, by keeping it divided, mulched and trimmed when required.  Here at the farm, the blooms are cut when in their prime condition to ensure good-quality floral design. This also helps a perennial to remain healthy by putting its energy back into the foliage and the overall growth of the plant.

Choosing Perennials

As you pick and choose what suits your individual requirements—such as style, color or garden zone—you’ll find that those plants/perennials will become your choice when creating the design for your garden or landscape.

When choosing perennials, always consider each one’s needs for shade, sun, drainage, etc.

Here at K. van Bourgondien, you’ll find each plant has a detailed description of the environment it grows well in. Add charm and texture while reaping the rewards for all your floral designs!

Perennials

As an experienced flower farmer since 1995, I offer you the utmost encouragement to plant perennials. This has been my key to sustaining a continuous flow of product.

‘Tis the season for PLANTING.
