Well, friends, it’s been an AMAZING summer for flower farming. Absolutely no complaints to share!
The gardens have produced some of the most vibrant colors—especially when speaking of dahlias.
Are you a dahlia lover within the fields of flower farming? If so, let’s talk about varieties.
Here at the farm, I lean toward the cream colors and the rich burgundy tones. They seem to serve well in bridal bouquets and at other special events that call for class AND simplicity!
Of course, all colors bring joy to flower farming and add such richness to a farm.
There will be lessons to learn about dahlias along the way, with some lessons standing true no matter the volume or size of farm that one owns.
Once harvested, dahlias very seldom continue to unfold, so be conscious of the stage desired for a particular floral piece.
Dahlias don’t like heat after harvesting. Here at the farm, they go directly into water and into the cooler for a longer vase life.
Let’s speak dinnerplate dahlias. Some flower farmers may shun them to the side due to their size. They can be tricky when tucking them into arrangements or bouquets. But, here at the farm, I welcome them. I absolutely adore them for their majesty and the statement they make in a floral design.
Here, I show a few arrangements for nestling in dinnerplate dahlias.
Stay tuned for further details on what September offers in the garden. For now, keep blooming!
