Asclepias bloom in the hot dry summer months when little else is in bloom. Loaded with flowers, butterflies swarm the plant for delicious nectar. It is the only host plant for Monarch butterflies because it is the only one they will lay their eggs on! Bold foliage and bright colors blend beautifully into borders. Strong stems make Asclepias a great long-lasting cut flower. Incarnata produces fragrant vanilla-scented flowerheads of a heavenly rose-pink.

Butterfly Plant Incarnata (Pink)

It's lovely and needed but the description is misleading. The common and swamp milkweed plants are native hosts to monarch butterflies. Asclepias are welcome and wanted additions to the butterfly gardens, but the monarch butterflies did just fine in the 1000s of years before Asclepias showed up thanks to people.
