We moved to the Pacific Northwest after retiring from teaching. Never having had the time for gardening, this has been a new experience. So far, a good one! It was difficult to envision planting in fall and not knowing what it would look like until the next spring and summer. I spent the winter wondering if the colors would look good together; if the plants would even grow!.
The first snow was magical, as we'd never seen it snow before, but I wasn't sure how my plants would do with a few inches of snow a couple times a year.
I'm happy to say that the lilies have done very well, and the lavender plants, as well. The bright colors of the flowers, coming after the stark winter landscape, were a great pay-off for my earlier planting efforts. I'm looking forward to expanding my efforts for next summer!
