Dear Gardeners:

Some people like nice polite little Tulips that are tidy, demure, and pretty, without making a spectacle of themselves... Not me! Give me a big, gaudy, ostentatious Tulip any day of the week! I figure, the garden has been bundled up in winter drabness for so long, once springtime arrives it's time to kick up your heels and show a little leg! Well, metaphorically speaking, of course!

Take the Double Flowering Tulips for example. They could be just fine with only a single set of petals... but who wants to settle for bare minimum petals when you can layer on double, triple, or even quadruple the average number of petals on plain-Jane Tulips? The Double Tulip 'Abigail' doesn't spare the rouge when she goes out on the town with plenty of petals deeply saturated in magenta-purple tones. Not to be outdone, the red-petaled 'Eternal Flame' adds the quintessential botanical accessory: variegated foliage.
