Dear Gardeners:

To me, flowers have personalities; daffodils are polite, phlox is a gossip, and callas are drama queens. So what personality does one of my favorite plants, the daylily, have? I've always thought of this fun flower as a bubbly go-go dancer. I'm sure that sounds strange, but maybe it's their bright colors and bold patterns that conjure up the image. If the garden were an episode of Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In the daylily would definitely be Goldie Hawn!

Cheerful, perky, playful, and sometimes kooky, the Daylilies are on the A-list for every swinging botanical shin-dig. Factor in their easy going growing style, love of sun, tolerance of drought, and resistance to pests and problems and these plants are even more popular garden party-goers.

Browsing through all the groovy Daylilies we've got this fall I can't help but remember my favorite fashions and patterns from the 60s. Do the electric colors of 'Startle' look familiar? How about the far out bi-color pattern of 'Brookwood Lee Causey'? 'Wild Horses' even looks like it's wearing knee high white go-go boots. And come to think of it, I think I had a miniskirt that looked a lot like 'Cherry Valentine'! So, am I going to invite another Daylily to the garden this fall? You bet your sweet bippy!
